1926: Philipp M. Winter founded the ‘Optische Industrieanstalt Philipp M. Winter’ (Philipp M. Winter Optical Industry Institute) in this year. What he certainly did not realise was that he was laying the foundation for the global success story of today's uvex group. The beginnings were small and modest, with his own craft production in a small workshop in the Fürth suburb of Poppenreuth. Here, he manufactured all kinds of safety spectacles, which at that time still involved laborious manual work.
After difficult years of development, the production facilities reached their capacity limits. In 1936, the company moved to Salzstraße 18-22 in Fürth, where Philipp M. Winter acquired a building complex that made it possible to combine the expanded production and administration departments.
