British inventor John Abrahms is said to have come up with the idea for a wearable bike lock after his bike was stolen in 2009. No sooner said than done, he set about implementing his idea and two years later, he and Ben Smith launched the “wearable chain lock” under the Hiplok brand. The big difference to most bicycle locks: you can strap it around your waist like a belt.
Within a few years, Hiplok has become a specialist in bicycle accessories with a constant stream of new innovations.
Eleven years after its founding in 2020, uvex acquired a majority stake in the company, enabling Hiplok to continue to grow and establish itself as an innovation leader in the bicycle accessories market.
