New logistics and service centre goes into operation
With sales figures growing, one problem became increasingly pressing: the uvex group's storage facilities were becoming overloaded. Until now, several locations had shared storage capacity. Overloading and differing IT infrastructures ultimately made the construction of a new uvex central warehouse the only viable option. Planning for such a warehouse began in 2020. The perfect location was found in Rednitzhembach near Fürth. The greenfield site offered the necessary design freedom to create a sustainable, state-of-the-art building. Its proximity to the previous uvex safety warehouse in Schwabach made it easier to relocate employees once construction was complete.
2021: The ground-breaking ceremony took place. In two and a half years of construction, a state-of-the-art logistics centre was built, where the entire product range of the uvex group can be handled
The new logistics building has been awarded DGNB gold pre-certification for its particularly environmentally friendly construction. This includes planting 6,000 square metres of roof space, planting 59 deciduous trees, installing 20 nesting boxes, planting 28 privet hedges and planting over 720 shrubs. Instead of fossil fuels, a wood chip heating system, supplied regionally from sustainable forestry, and a heat pump are used. A PV system with 4,500 m² of PV module area generates more than 760 kWp of peak electricity output. By way of comparison, this corresponds to the average consumption of 22 four-person households.
On 22 July 2024, the uvex group's new central warehouse in Rednitzhembach was officially opened. With 35,000 square metres of floor space, a height of 30 metres, over 30,000 pallet spaces and 286,000 container spaces, the uvex group has created sufficient space for future growth. Thanks to a high degree of automation and homogeneous process solutions, the group of companies ensures state-of-the-art and efficient service and logistics solutions for its customers in the long term.
