It took around one and a half year before the first uvex riding helmet was unveiled: a cross-departmental team worked on the project until December 2008, before the helmet was presented to the trade press. In 2009, the first equestrian products appeared in the catalogue, including helmets such as the uvex FP 1 carbon, riding goggles and the first accessories.
The very first helmets already set standards: hard-shell technology with air channels and high-tech internal materials ensured a climate similar to functional sportswear – dry, cool or warming as required. Equestrian sports developed successfully at a rapid pace and the range was continuously expanded.
In 2014, uvex acquired the riding glove specialist Schwenkel and added high-quality riding gloves to its portfolio.
In 2012, uvex broke new ground by developing a helmet specifically for dressage. This was an absolute first in the history of equestrian sport, as until then dressage riders had foregone head protection at competitions and favoured the classic top hat.
Traditionally, dressage riders are reluctant to wear helmets – and there are reasons for this, as they are generally highly skilled riders with well-trained horses, where the risk of accidents is fundamentally lower than, for example, in show jumping or eventing. Nevertheless, dressage riders are not immune to falls.
uvex therefore set out to develop an elegant model that matched the aesthetic sensibilities of this riding discipline. In Isabell Werth, one of Germany’s most successful dressage riders, they found the perfect partner to make the new helmet socially acceptable.
