Winter sports - “uvex is the name of the ski goggles”
“uvex is the name of the ski goggles” – this slogan has become firmly anchored in people’s minds. And rightly so, because the history of uvex winter sports products is as long as it is diverse.
The beginnings in alpine sports date back many decades. Shortly after the “Optische Industrieanstalt” was founded by Philipp M. Winter in 1926, the first ski goggles followed – specifically at the beginning of the 1930s, in time for the Olympic Games. Athletes such as Christl Cranz and Heli Lantschner celebrated success with products from Fürth.
The early ski goggles were followed at the end of the 1980s by ski helmets and accessories.
uvex products at the Olympic Winter Games
Since 1936, numerous athletes from many different countries have relied on uvex ski helmets and ski goggles at the Olympic Winter Games. In 2018 alone, in Pyeongchang, 277 athletes from 31 countries across 10 disciplines trusted uvex – a strong sign of the brand’s international significance. Once again, the gold-coloured special collection of ski helmets and goggles – developed specifically for the Olympics – stood out in particular. Featured as part of the “Look for a winner” campaign, it not only impressed in terms of functionality but also became a visual hallmark of the Olympic Winter Games. Products for the subsequent Games in 2022 and 2026 also remained true to the golden finish. Athletes especially appreciated the combination of maximum safety, innovative technology and sporty design that has distinguished uvex products for decades.

uvex champion – the goggles that keep a clear view
An athlete is only as good as their clarity of vision. Even at the founding of the “Optische Anstalt Philipp M. Winter”, care was taken to ensure that goggles were ventilated through lateral perforations. In 1964, uvex launched its first anti-fog ski goggles, the uvex champion.
It was one of the very first branded ski goggles ever and was characterised by an unrestricted field of vision, made possible by the laterally wrapped panoramic lens. The innovative ventilation ensured clear vision at all times, while the soft Elastomoll padding provided a pleasant and comfortable fit. The flame-retardant cellon lenses, along with the ease of adjustment of the headband, made the uvex champion an indispensable companion for athletes. The simple lens replacement also contributed to the popularity of these goggles.
To this day, the following applies: uvex ski goggle lenses do not fog up – not even when held over boiling water for 60 seconds.
Since 1971
uvex downhill ski goggle – a classic with history
The uvex downhill is one of the true classics among ski goggles and has been delighting winter sports enthusiasts since 1971, when uvex first presented ski goggles with an injection-moulded spherical lens and supravision® anti-fog coating – a revolutionary technology at the time for permanently fog-free vision.
Over the decades, the goggles were continually refined. A major re-design took place in 2012, including modern mirrored lenses and technologies such as variomatic® and polavision®, which ensure optimal vision in changing light conditions.
Its timeless design and high-quality lens technology make the uvex downhill a popular choice to this day for anyone who wants to rely on clear vision, comfort and uvex quality.
