Workwear - Maximum safety and comfort
In the 1990s, uvex developed its own product line for professional and protective clothing for the first time under the name “uvextil” in order to meet the rapidly growing demand in this segment. These products were among the most important innovations of the decade and were shortly afterwards offered via the field sales team.
Typical “uvextil” garments were:
- Trousers
- Work jackets & weather jackets
- Workwear for industry & trades
This collection marked a decisive step towards the later professionalisation of uvex workwear.
1995
Workwear collection Evolution
Based on the classic boiler suit, this collection was developed in the 1990s together with the customer Bardusch. The collection proved to be a real success: between 1990 and 2000 it enjoyed great popularity among customers and became the best‑selling workwear collection.
1998
Workwear from the production of the acquired Vogtland-Konfektion
With the acquisition of Vogtland-Konfektion in 1998, uvex began having its own workwear manufactured in Europe. These products developed into key parts of the range – in particular:
- Jackets and trousers for road and track construction
- Courier driver equipment
- Office clothing / service clothing
The products manufactured there formed one of the most important workwear foundations of the early 2000s.
2000s
First functional workwear for specific industries
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, uvex increasingly began to develop industry-specific products, for example:
- High-performance protective clothing for technical professions
- Protective clothing against flying sparks and mechanical stress
- Early high-visibility solutions (before the introduction of more modern suXXeed collections)
This clothing was important because PPE became significantly more professionalised due to legal requirements such as the German Occupational Safety Act of 1996.
The uvex silver system disposable coveralls came onto the market in 2008. Their special feature: they have an antibacterial surface, the so-called nanosilver coating. This gives the coverall an exceptionally high level of protection against biological hazards.
Due to the innovative nanotechnology, a sample of this coverall is even on display in the Deutsches Museum in Munich.
2018
