Eddie “The Eagle” - An incredible story
Michael Edwards, better known by the name Eddie “The Eagle”, is a real exceptional talent: he was the first (and until the year 2002 also the only) ski athlete to compete for Great Britain in an Olympic ski jumping competition – at the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary in 1988. Michael Edwards’ great dream was to compete at the Olympics, no matter in which discipline. With courage, perseverance and his extremely likeable nature, he succeeded in becoming a sports legend from being an outsider with no chances. In doing so, he was perfectly equipped with uvex ski helmet and goggles.
In the men’s jumping, he finished far behind in last place both on the 70‑metre and on the 90‑metre hill, yet “The Eagle” broke the national British ski jumping record with this performance. To this day, he also holds the world record for a stunt jump over 10 cars and 6 buses.
Later, he returned to his “actual” work as a construction worker and paver, although according to his own statements he will always remain a ski jumper at heart – an incredible story that was even dedicated a feature film in 2016.
