Although the uvex brand was originally developed for sunglasses, a truly market‑oriented concept was only realized with the integration of Filtral GmbH in 1967. In the decades that followed, Filtral experienced strong growth and successfully diversified its business. In 1991, the company became an independent subsidiary under the name FILTRAL GmbH & Co. Vertriebs KG. One year later, it relocated to a new administrative and warehouse facility in Burgfarrnbach. Beginning in the 1990s, the product portfolio was further expanded to include reading glasses marketed under the Filtral brand. The primary target groups were large retail companies, such as drugstore chains and grocery retailers. Today, Filtral is regarded as one of the leading providers in this segment.
In 2016, the specialist in sunglasses and reading glasses operating across all key European markets acquired the Primetta brand. In the same year, the Filtral group was founded.
