In 2021, the uvex sports group acquired a majority stake in the company, which was founded in 2011, thereby enabling Hiplok to establish itself as one of the leading innovators in the bicycle accessories market. Hiplok specializes in bicycle locks and has received numerous awards for its innovative products.
All products continue to be developed from the ground up by the company’s founders, Ben Smith and John Abrahams. Each product features unique, innovative functions designed to address real‑world challenges in bicycle security.
The first wearable bicycle lock was developed at Hiplok’s headquarters in Leamington Spa—a town internationally known as the birthplace of lawn tennis, where the first recorded game was played in 1872.
The idea for the Hiplok Z LOK was born when a friend of founder Ben Smith tried to secure his bike with a cable tie. Seeing the need for a better solution, Ben and John developed the Z LOK, a bicycle lock inspired by the simplicity of a cable tie.
Hiplok actively supports blind and visually impaired sport in the UK, raising more than £5,000 to date through initiatives such as RideLondon and the annual Hiplok charity bake sale.
Hiplok’s headquarters is more than just the home of its products—it is also a lively place for line dancing and steel drum music, as the company’s Christmas celebrations clearly show.
