In 1970, a great deal of enthusiasm, many ideas, and the uvex name laid the foundation for UVEX (Schweiz) AG. Gregor Furrer and Rainer Winter founded the Swiss subsidiary in Baar near Zug. From the very beginning, a close business and personal relationship existed between Gregor and Rainer, as well as between their families.
Looking back:
In June 1975, the new office and warehouse building at Ruessenstrasse 6 in Baar was officially inaugurated and occupied. The accompanying photograph shows Gregor Furrer alongside prominent figures from the worlds of sports and politics.
July 1979 – An Unforgettable Evening of Football in Fürth
In honor of the passionate football fan Rainer Winter, an exceptional football match took place at Fürth Stadium. A team of dedicated uvex athletes—including former Swiss elite ski racers Bernhard Russi, Walter Tresch, Peter Lüscher, Erich Schärrer, Peter Müller, and Gregor Furrer, joined by German skiers—faced a selection of former German national team players. Among them were the legendary Franz Beckenbauer (†), Günther Netzer, Gerd Müller (†), and Uwe Seeler (†).
The uvex team won the match 4–3—not due to technical superiority, but thanks to greater stamina.
The celebration concluded with a traditional Bavarian evening, creating a festive atmosphere. One moment in particular sparked lively discussion: a decision by the world‑famous referee from northern Germany, who disallowed a goal. Swiss bobsleigh legend Erich Schärrer dryly commented, “Have you never been slapped before?”
To mark the 700th anniversary of the Confederation, uvex joined forces with the Gregor Furrer Group to host an exceptional moonlight event for 300 guests on Lake Lucerne. The evening began in Lucerne, followed by a moonlit boat journey toward the Bürgenstock. A spectacular fireworks display delighted the guests before the voyage continued to the Rütli, where an excerpt from the play William Tell was performed.
