Building on the work of Georg Rixner, who had been introducing uvex products to Austria since the mid-1960s, WINTER OPTIK Gesellschaft m.b.H. was founded on 24 November 1969 in Wels, Austria. Initially, with a team of three employees, the company sold only sports products and sunglasses, before gradually expanding into the occupational safety sector during the 1970s. From 1987, the company operated under the name UVEX AUSTRIA Gesellschaft m.b.H and was the first overseas branch of the uvex brand.
